Exercise Date Ideas For Couples That Are Fun & Exciting

Save for Later!

Mix up date night with these fun exercise date ideas. Whether you want to keep it simple and stay in or get out and stay fit.

Stop wasting precious date nights with boring experiences that emptied your wallet or left you feeling the opposite of refreshed. Date nights are an opportunity to enhance your relationship by building memories and enjoying each other’s company.

As a busy mom with littles, I always look forward to any alone time I get with my husband. I look forward to having uninterrupted time to engage, talk, and connect with eachother. I want to interact. To reignite the fire of passion we have for eachother. Although my husband is a wonderful father, I want to spend time together doing things we did before kids. Activities that reflect parts of his character that I have grown to admire and love today. Time to be silly and have fun.

Exercise is a great way for us to bond as a team (pun intended) and enjoy ourselves while doing something beneficial for our fitness.

Is working out a good date idea?

Exercise is the best date for a couple because it allows you to interact in a fun and relaxed way that improves mood, energy, and connection.

I love working out with my husband. We are there to push and encourage each other through the hard parts. But we aren’t afraid to have fun with a little teasing and competitive banter either. Just like in our marriage.

A husband and wife should go to the gym together because it’s a laid back way to work as a team and emotionally connect as they accomplish a common goal.

Plus, what’s better than having your own personal coach that will be honest with you? Someone to assess your form and motivate you through the hard parts? Someone that will be there to acknowledge your effort and boost your confidence. A couple that sweats together, stays together.

Fitness Club Day Pass

Sign up for a inexpensive (sometimes free!) one-time trial pass, and get active with a workout you both enjoy without the “class” of group fitness. Most fitness clubs offer a wide variety of amenities as well as equipment. Things like a pool, track, basketball court, raquetball rooms, weight and cardio machines, free weights, medicine balls, boxes, resistance bands, stability balls, and more. Keep in mind, some clubs offer one day, week, or month drop-ins, so call around for prices first.

Home Workout

The cheapest and most low-fuss of all exercise date ideas. Get active in the comfort of your own home as you both workout and get a date night feel without the trouble of getting out or finding a sitter. Get creative and write a workout together, or you can each make a workout to test the other. Youtube is a great resource of partner workouts that are pre-programmed and utilize minimal equipment as they are designed for home. In fact, try my Fun Partner Workout For An Inexpensive Date With Husband. No equipment is needed as you utilize bodyweight and partner resistance to turn up the heat!

Partner workouts are a great way to get romantic during your exercise date. Most patner workouts involve some form of physical contact. Incorporating touch while you’ll both be sweaty, breathing heavy, and showing off your bodies with some form fitting athletic wear can build a little desire during your session. Finish your workout with a little partner assisted stretching to really put the cherry on top.

Fun Athletic Date Ideas

You don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy any of these suggestions, but they fall further down the athletic spectrum for most. For the sports lovers and former athletes, these can all be a fun date while getting in an exciting workout and showing off your skills. And for many of these, all you need is minimal equipment and access to a public park or field!

  • Rock climbing (indoor or out)
  • Indoor adventure course (think Ninja Warrior style!)
  • Trail biking
  • Skiing
  • Jiu Jitsu / Martial Arts Class
  • Batting Cages
  • Trail Running
  • Tennis
  • Basketball

How do you make a walking date fun?

Personally, I LOVE walking dates. They are laid back, we get to hold hands, it keeps us busy, and best of all, it’s free! Although they’re great, walking dates can get a little boring. I have found that the best way to spice them up are by changing the location like finding really pretty public parks and forests to explore. You can also incorporate a scavenger hunt of looking for certain things in nature. You can take a picnic of your favorite healthy snacks to enjoy when you reach your destination. “Get lost” and try to find your way out of the park using just a compass and map. Explore your neighborhood and pretend to “house hunt” for your favorite home.

I also enjoy rounding out an exercise date with a healthy meal afterwards to have some sitdown time to replenish and relax. Then I don’t feel guilty for indulging mindlessly or overeating to extend the night the way I would at a resturaunt or movie date.

Get active, connect, and deepen your bond with any of these exercise date ideas!
